It is with great sadness in our hearts that the Cheong family has to bear the news that our Father/Husband passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2013.
As many of you know, he has been battling hard since January and things were looking positive; unfortunately, due to multiple health conditions, things took a turn for the worse.
He was proud, strong, courageous, intelligent as well as being extremely funny. He was a great husband and father and we will miss him more than words can say.
As per his great outlook on life, we would like everyone to celebrate his positive outlook and humorous disposition and remember him as the great man he was.
Thank you all for your kind wishes and thoughts.
The family will be holding a private funeral (as Wing would not have wanted people sitting around feeling sad for him. Although his ultimate prank would be to jump up and say "boo")
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to VGH (especially the Cardiac Care Unit) for all their hard work, dedication and emotional support during these past 6 months.

Even though we know Wing Lee for only around 2 years, we are glad that God brought Wing Lee to us even before we moved as a family to Vancouver. I found Wing Lee's name from the internet and asked him for his advice to come to Vancouver. I had endless doubts and questions pertaining to Vancouver and he was ever so patient and kind to answer them all! We met him and his lovely wife, Sally in Singapore and then eventually when we moved here. We also had the honour to know his three children and his daughter-in-law later on. Since his health condition worsened, we visited him a couple of times and have prayed for God's healing upon him! It was most saddening to see Wing Lee leave us and he will be sorely missed - for his gifted drawing talent, his caring nature, his warm hospitality and especially your signature chilli crab at his cozy and lovely home! Our thoughts are with Sally and her children and may God continue to bless this family! Wing Lee will always be remembered as a courageous, sincere, outspoken and an extremely kind-hearted man...

Uncle Wing's fighting spirit is an inspiration to many. I will always remember uncle Wing as an outspoken person -- frank and sincere -- and he stated his views from the position of genuine warmth and caring. He will be missed by the followers of this blog and others whose lives he had touched.
ReplyDeleteOur condolences to his family.
Best Regards, WD.
Dear Sally,
ReplyDeleteWe are sadden to hear of your loss. We had so much fun when Wing was staying with us, to hear his jokes, playing Tai Chi with him and enjoying his cooking.
Please accept our condolences.

I always admired Wing's ability to face adversity with a genuine smile on his face, sense of humour and love in his heart. I'm grateful for having the chance to get to know him. He's probably looking down from the heavens right now, plotting his next prank. Wing, if you're listening, here's an inside joke for you: "Mr. Cheong - we have tapes."
ReplyDeleteYour cartoons have been a great inspiration to us. Even though you have left Singapore a long time ago, you never gave up fighting for Singaporeans. Thank you sir.

Dear Sally,
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear about the passing of Wing, and my condolences to you and your family. It was an honor and a pleasure to know him, both on an off the O2P dragon boat team and enjoying his cooking especially his infamous chilli crab. I will have fond memories of him, his humour, and our last meal together at the end of 2012. He is now in heaven and at peace...and hopefully not pranking anyone up in heaven.
My best regards,
Nevin

While none of you know me, I actually had the pleasure of communicating with Wing through emails over the last few years. I read his autobiography on his blog and obviously his life was not easy. I suppose it was a blessing in disguise which made him so insightful on life and had the courage to speak out. May Wing rest in peace and my condolences to the family!

Very sorry to hear this news. My heart goes out to you and your family. Wing was a very important person and in my life. I give him credit for much of my insight. He gave me a unique window on the world. I spent many hours with Wing and my life is much better for it. He often spoke of his family as the most important thing in his life. He was so proud of you all.
ReplyDeleteI will truly miss him.
Please give Suzanne and me a chance to formulate new plans. Of course we would very much like to see everyone again. I will be in touch soon.
Larry
Thank you Larry and Suzanne for your kind words and thoughts

Dear Sally,
ReplyDeletePlease allow me to express my deepest condolences to both you and the children on Wing Lee's passing. My only consolation is that I had the opportunity to meet the both of you when you visited Malaysia last year.
Wing Lee will alway remain a jovial and caring person in my mind. One who was not afraid to say what he thought; but at the same time, was compassionate and always encouraging.
I will always remember the times we had in Tai Wah and the half day we spent together in Kuala Lumpur.
Sally, please do take care of yourself.
May God Bless and give eternal life to Wing Lee.
Sincerely,
Andre

PS sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I am not the most savvy in using the net.
Our thoughts are constantly with you, Sally and your family at this time of your profound loss. Although we had known Wing for only a short period of 2 years or so, we found him to be a truly sincere, kind, generous and wonderful friend…he will always be in our hearts and will be dearly missed.
ReplyDeleteIf there is anything that we can do at this time that can be of help to you and your family, please do not hesitate to let us know.
Take care, Chung and may God continue to bless you and your family

I came across this blog a little over a year ago and was fascinated by Wing's sharing and stories, which were truly different - he wrote because he cared and that was what leaped out at you from the screen. His words were refreshing - like a cool breeze in the desert afternoon heat.
ReplyDeleteFor those who have not had the chance to meet him, know that the great man on screen is eclipsed by the giant in person. Uncle Wing gave me tons of encouragement before I came and really made me feel at home when I arrived in Vancouver. I feel privileged to have had the chance to know him.
Uncle Wing's legacy and words will continue to reach out halfway across the planet and inspire generations of young Singaporeans in the years to come.
